Give it bright, gentle light

Place basil near a bright window, away from harsh afternoon heat. Outdoor plants usually enjoy morning sun and shelter from strong wind.

Water the soil, not the leaves

Check the top layer of soil and water when it begins to feel dry. Let excess water drain so the roots do not sit in a wet pot.

Pick from the top

Harvest just above a pair of leaves. Regular pinching encourages the plant to branch and keeps tender new growth coming.
